Sunset Christian Academy’s preschool is available to all fully potty-trained children between the ages of two and four years old. According to the National Association of the Education of Young Children, NAEYC, the following goals provide the framework for a developmentally appropriate preschool program. Sunset Christian Academy strongly supports this belief and has provided the activities and materials that help children to achieve these goals:
- Fostering positive self-concept
- Developing social skills
- Encouraging children to think, reason, question, and experiment
- Encouraging language development
- Enhancing physical development and skills
- Encouraging and demonstrating sound health, safety, and nutritional practices
- Encouraging creative expression and appreciation for the arts
- Respecting cultural diversity
These goals are met through:
- Language rich environment
- Learning centers
- Art projects
- Worksheets
- Puzzles
- Dramatic play
- Playing with your children - looking for opportunity to stretch their thinking and develop their social skills.
The basics in the alphabet, letter sounds, numerals and counting through the ABeka Curriculum, and many hands-on experiences through the Wee Learn Curriculum are introduced to the children. Daily Bible stories and weekly Chapel services are presented to teach the Word of God and encourage the children to continue in their ‘walk’ to know the Lord intimately.
